I hate RPGs, okay I love them, but that is aside from my point at the moment. I can never seem to be happy with any character I make, in any RPG. The character customization is a large part of what makes an RPG fun for me yet I seem to never be able to be content with the character I've made. I can't count how many times I have gotten halfway through a game only to restart my game because I find myself deeply unsatisfied with my character. The 'what if' is a huge problem for me. What if I had invested some points in that skill instead of this one? I mean fuck, maybe choice is a bad thing after all. Maybe I just need to suck it up and stick with the choices I have made. Here's an idea, how about the game only lets you have one character?

This is why I spend so long creating a character, but then I end up getting bored after all that time spent on the game, shut it off, and likely never play again. :3
@CuddlyClementine That's part of why I don't play the overly obviouse D&D games like NWN and Baulders Gate.
@timyadeadhomie you. . . don't. . . play. . . Baldur's Gate?!?!?!?

*stabs*
@Mishy I tried, I honestly tried, but I just don't have the attention span to sustain interest after taking so long to make a character and then discovering I hate him/her. Although I did play the console ports (extensively), but those are nothing like the PC version.
I have the problem of getting bored and or having more fun making the character then finishing the game. I'm constantly looking at my characters features/armor and if I don't like something I almost always start over!
Here is another idea: make different beginnings to choose from, a bit like dragon age origins, but times 10. I like to make many different characters, but i really hate having to go through the same tutorial shit or stuff like that.
*scribbles down notes* non of you are getting any credit for any of these ideas...
i have the same problem with RPGs, i love them but like you said about half way through i start over....mostly because i think to myself "oh this character is too squishy....what if i had this?...hmmmm....ok ill try it" then i never go back....except oblivion it seems....but yeah i feel u =P
I've never done any of the main story in Oblivion except that which was mandatory.
In my opinion creating character is easy. You probably ask "why?" Its easy. I dont pay much attention to what skills t choose or something. First I choose if I want to be a mage or fighter then i start playing and choose what I like. In game if I have to choose 1 of 2 skills i choose the one I need more. The biggest fun is from decision you make along in the game not creating character that anyone can make or its immortal, you need to make cha that is coolest for you and dont think you could do better because you probably going the right way creating it.
Regards :D
@geba89 if it was as easy to do as it is to say, we wouldn't be talking about it >:(
Ya I don't like making my character godly I just like being unique, like in NWN2 I made a swashbuckler guy like a speed and dodging melee guy. He wasn't super strong but that just seemed more interesting than anything else.
@jimmyheartbreak interesting, i'll give it a try next time instead of always making a mage or a warrior or a warrior/mage
i have same issue that why i spend so long making sure im happy before i start
Too true. I always had that problem. Now i rely on Builds that other ppl made. It gets me a decent character but I guess it kinda takes away from the game. Sticking to a build kinda takes away that freedom that makes an rpg an rpg.
I actually play RPGs for the story more than freedom.
have you ever tried any of the elder scrolls games?
Yeah, I can sympathize. The need to make sure my character is good and I am getting everything and wait what if I had chose that other path and I'm not sure if I made the right choice and... ARGH. It's seriously stressing.

Little friendly tip: if you hate that feeling, don't play Knights in the Nightmare, dude. It's a really, really good game, but it's a tactical RPG where you can miss characters and units and lose your unrecoverable units real fast and you have to choose when to fuse and can gimp yourself out of weapons easily and etcetera. It's awesome, but stressing as HELL :P.
I have reroled toons in WoW and other RPGs dozens and dozens of times.....I want a RPG with extremely wide customization so i can finally make my character the way I want him. There just never seems to be enough options involved. And If I finally get him how I want him I either can't choose a name or it is not available.
Meh--here is what I do to make a character.

I look at a class that looks nice... then I think... what could I do to make this character completely out of whack.

I mean, like a cleric who has taken the role of true neutral. Even to the point of healing injured enemies.

Or take up the character class in a game commonly thought of as useless, and use it to make a mockery of the game. Kind of like what Red Chocobo did in /h(er|is)/ Let's Play Pokemon Crystal.

I mean, a game gets a lot more fun when I do parody play throughs.

I mean, the most fun character in Children of Mana I have, is the character I have invested everything into having really powerful arrows--but he has no armour. Generally refusing to wear anything but what gives him the least defense. He also has the autorevive ability on and a decent stock of Angel Graels. This character was modeled after Ran Cossack. Only the most canon noncanon Megaman character ever made (I mean, go back five or six years, and you get people who swear that Ran was an official Capcom character).

That is my solution to this large amount of choice... to choose the choice that makes the biggest mockery of the system--and pull it off.
Yeah, creating a character the right way can be hard in a lot of rpgs, but they're usually worth it.
At least in terms of stats I like that WoW lets you change your talent spec whenever you want for a small fee of gold. If games had this feature (such as Fallout 3 letting you redo your perks or skill points for a fee of some caps) that would be fine with me. Sometimes it helps to have laser weapons but if all your points are in small guns you're S.O.L.
@KatrinaTheLamia Wow. That is pure genius.
That's one of the things that are great with ME2: you can respec Shepard for a fee. You can't change class (there are 6 classes in the game), but you can redistribute all your skill points. It encourages experimenting, I like it a lot.

On other games, I do a first playthrough on Normal difficulty to discover the game, and make an opinion of what works and what doesn't. Then I can Play again and do my favorite build, which always ends up being a rogue based on speed and sneak attacks and speed (yeah, I said it twice, that's how important it is).
I usually only play through a game once.
@timyadeadhomie you only play through an RPG once? What a shame. I usually do 2 playthroughs experiencing very different games both times. First, for the story, second for the combat/gameplay
I end up doing everything the first time through and the game better give me a damn good reason to play through again or it's likely to end up at Gamestop. That's not just for RPGs.
If you're going for the story it does make sense to do a single playtrough...
What I often do is make a simple character for the game, something efficiënt or simply fun (mostly something shapeshifting related... but that's just me :D) and play 2-3 hours to get a good feel of the game. After that I start a new game, creating a character that I feel fits in with the story and playstyle and I still find fun to play with.
@timyadeadhomie Not only are the console BG titles NOT ports, they are nothing like the pc games and in fact the only similarities are that they have the name Baldur's Gate in them.

Think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Robert Downey Jrs Shelock Holmes. Completely contradictory itself.

The same goes for Fallout 1 and 2 and the mindless, shallow xbox beat em up Fallout: Piece of...I mean Brotherhood of Steel.
@Fallout2Forever I know, I actually loved the console BG games, had I known the PC versions were NOT like them I never would have gotten them.
@timyadeadhomie

. . .

. . .

get out

now
@timyadeadhomie Shame, because the PC games are pretty good.
@Fallout2Forever good? THEY ARE EPIC
I hated them, same with NWN
@Fallout2Forever What was wrong with Brotherhood of Steel on the Xbox? I thought it was pretty fun for what it was.
I never played any Fallout game other than 3.
The fail in this room is immense! We must overcome it quickly!

(Baldur's Gate 2 Reference Crits Fail for OVER 9000!!!)
@Mishy I rule you.
@timyadeadhomie I rule your mum O SNAP

Anyway

*casts Maze, you fail your save. Enjoy your 5 turns in hell*
@Mishy I love hell, it's so chilly there.
@timyadeadhomie Simple solution. Play Kingdom Hearts.
PROTIP: Bashing KH is ill-ad-fucking-vised.
@EarthboundX It's decent at best, and extremely shallow.
@xoaks I love KH! CoM was the worst of the series, although I have not played the DS one, but it was still a damn good game.
@xoaks KH 1 and 2 are 2 of the best PS2 games out there.
*cough* Hate Kingdom Hearts *cough*

Just like Final Fantasy games haha

*puts on Flamesuit*

READY
@Fallout2Forever Most definitely. Although I do prefer 2 over 1.
@Mishy That is your opinion and you are not entitled to it.
*xoaks is no longer friends with Mishy*
Facebook gone....
@xoaks bahaha wow, I hate one game (coincidently just like how Tim hates BG) and that happens?

*whistles*
LMFAO @xoaks I didn't tale you for a FB kinda girl.
@Mishy You don't get to call me by my slave name! *bitch smack*
@timyadeadhomie you don't get to bitch smack me!

*bitch smack follwoed by knee to crotch*

eat it. . . TIM
@Mishy I've had that done to me so many times it doesn't affect me anymore, so piss off m8.
@timyadeadhomie Prolly cause I'm not. My damn toy made me make one.
@xoaks is whiped
@timyadeadhomie Ahaha~ he's the toy, not I.
@xoaks It doesn't sound that way to me sir.
@timyadeadhomie He'll beat you up~
@xoaks Wouldn't be the first time.
I'm getting into this late but I agree that Fallout 3 was kind of a disappointment when compared to earlier fallout 1 and 2. But in their defense they are only bethesda and it would have been insane to make the amount of detail of those games with modern graphics within bethesda's company philosophy and talent etc. But maybe with New Vegas we can see something somewhere in between.

Also, liked kingdom hearts but if I remember right I only played the first one.

Loved the NWN games on pc, never knew they came out for console, but in regards to the pc ones I never seemed to finish them :D
KH1 was good, CoM decent (mostly took some time to get used to), KH2 ...well, simply sucked :/ and the DS one (358/2) is ... decent but too much of a grind, you're playing it because you're supposed to like the game and the series but it just can't be considered good...
Looking forward to Birth by Sleep though :D
@Fallout2Forever Still, you have to admit, the co-op in Steel was a lot of fun.
@jimmyheartbreak NWN was PC only.

And while the muliplayer was beyond having nothing like it, the single player was so bland that I had to force myself really badly to get through to where I got in the game.
@Fallout2Forever I only tried SP, I don't do MP often.
@timyadeadhomie Neither do I really. But NWN's single player was just plain painful.
@Fallout2Forever I agree. I did not like it at all. Funny enough I love the KOTOR games which uses the NWN engine.
@timyadeadhomie Yeah, but the KOTOR games both had really fun gameplay, really interesting characters, and really well done storylines.
@Fallout2Forever Too true. Come to the dark side, NOW!
@Legault You honestly think 2 is worst than 358? That's pretty stupid.
2 was the best IMHO
@timyadeadhomie Wait 'til BBS comes out...
@xoaks I'll be waiting... but I'm poor.
@timyadeadhomie Well considering it's Q3....
@xoaks 358? What are you talking about?
You know--I kind of have not touched Kingdom Hearts.

I mean.. Disney and Final Fantasy mixed? My first instinct is to pass on it.

Much like when I walk by the "Disney Princesses" DVDs at the store, my first instinct is to suspect ol' Waltie is spinning in his grave.

I dunno--it is just really hard for me not to do a correlation in my head between Kingdom Hearts and all the WRONG crossovers Disney has done over the years specifically to siphon money from our wallets.

This is the main reason I am not really interested in buying these games.
@KatrinaTheLamia

I

fucking

love

you <3
@KatrinaTheLamia I don't presume to know if you would like them but, if you get the chance, at least give them a shot. I never thought I would have liked KH either, but after playing 1 & 2 back to back in one sitting, I must say, they are quite good.
@KatrinaTheLamia I abstained from the series for the same reason, then the wife heard about it. Long story short we have the first two, I haven't played either, and she got stuck on number one and never cared to restart or figure out where she messed up. When I get into a last-generation PS2 grind though I will be sure to check them out along with Shadows of the Colossus, Final Fantasy XII (still in the plastic, purchased on an impulse buy) and Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. I also have some ground to break in the Suikoden series.
@rawkr Shadow of the Colossus is easily one of the best games on the ps2 IMO.
I grew up on RPGs and the like, but now I have difficulty playing them. I prefer multiplayer games more than most now, primarily because I feel as though I need to show off what I can do or have done to people in-game. I still play single player for the story and gameplay, but I find myself less driven to complete them because I feel as though there is no point. I don't know when I developed this mentality or why, but it's not healthy for my gaming because I'll skip out on some pretty solid titles to play weaker one's with solid multiplayer.

Another problem I have is with the open-world titles. MMOs, the elder scrolls series, hell even Grand Theft Auto; I find myself unable to not FUCK UP the world after a small amount of play.

With MMOs, the constant grind to the endgame becomes listless and makes me wonder why I care. There are few I've played that fixed this problem, primarily Warhammer Online and Guild Wars. Warhammer Online made you feel like you were part of something huge, and made it so you could participate in the fate of your faction right from the beginning. That kept me interested. Guild Wars kept you constantly on the right path with an interesting story and presentation that made you want to know what happened next.

With normal open-world titles, especially ones where you can kill non-enemy NPCs; I just reach a point where I snap. An NPC gives you shit in TES, end conversation and shoot him in the face with an arrow. Oh and GTA...fuck! I start that game, walk about 5 paces down the road, then spawn a Rhino and go to town killing civilians, police, and whomever else looks at me cross. I dunno why I can't do the story. Maybe R* made it so I can't psychologically help myself. I heard somewhere there's a story to the game! Who knew?
@KatrinaTheLamia It's a solid series. Plays more like the Zelda series than FF, which isn't a bad thing. Production values are high and gameplay is solid, and it somehow makes you rarely feel retarded whenever a Disney character flops onto the screen. It's worth a playthrough @xoaks about Legault; it is his opinion, though I agree a rather poorly formed one. It might be better to point out as to why it's ill informed, like for example how 358/2 Days has no context without 2 and how gameplay, while well executed for a hand-held title, is STILL A HANDHELD TITLE and suffers in many ways from it (i.e. Length, sound, graphics, control, etc.) @Legault 358/2 Days has no context without 2! And gameplay, while well executed for a hand-held title, is STILL A HANDHELD TITLE and suffers in many ways from it (i.e. Length, sound, graphics, control, etc.) If it's your thing, then great, but general consensus is quite opposite! I dunno, maybe it's the bitchin' multiplayer that tips the scales... :P @jimmyheartbreak Where were you when I needed backup, man!?
That was really long and I didn't read it.
@timyadeadhomie Generally I aim to make huge post full of flaws, poor facts, idiocy and misdirection so people won't read them and will just assume I know what I'm talking about....

... it never works...
@SilverJacketMan Whatever trips your trigger I guess.
Just for future reference, @timyadeadhomie , did that single sitting of KH 1 and 2 involve the smell of burnt toast appearing a lot?
@KatrinaTheLamia I don't get it... I smell burnt toast right now and I - ::SEIZURE::
@KatrinaTheLamia No, but it did end in a very long nap.
@SilverJacketMan Trust me, jimbo here isn't very good backup....
@xoaks This dumb bitch stalks me through multiple posts to add meaning to her listless existence.
jimmyheartbreak said 1 day ago
I'm getting into this late...

Yup. I must be stalking you. Even though I definitely already was in this topic when you made that particular post.
@jimmyheartbreak And dumb? Really? That's the best ya got?
I'm gonna level with you here kiddo...you need to get out of the house. Go out and find meaning because you obviously are not fulfilled with kingdom hearts enough so that you have to attack me. I feel for you really I do but that doesn't change the fact that your insanity is very unhealthy! I know the other kids are mean to you but it's gonna be ok! Take your invader zim messenger bag, pop on some greenday pins, check to make sure your hair isn't a natural color and step out into existence. I mean real existence, not hiding behind the face of an anime character who you wish you were and trying to sound intelligent and scathing on the internet. That my poor little xoaks is falsity and it's pathetic. Do you think you would say these things to me in person? And not get your face smashed in? Think about what you say to people and maybe someday people in the real world might actually like you. But that's really all I wanna say and I won't be returning to this topic so talk your shit after I leave just bear in mind what would happen if you weren't safe behind a computer :D
@xoaks He can do more than call you dumb, he can puff up his feathers as well! Apparently he thinks it's cool to threaten people.
@jimmyheartbreak You'll probably find that people are going to side with xoaks instead of you.

@jimmyheartbreak Stfu, noob.

No-one cares.
"I won't be returning to this topic so talk your @#$% after I leave just bear in mind what would happen if you weren't safe behind a computer :D"
Didn't you already say that you were done here...yesterday? Continually whining that you got your feelings hurt is only going to result in more bashing from more sources. And your veiled cyber threat is noted.
@jimmyheartbreak Is that how you pick up girls? "Go out with me or I'll smash your face in?"
...
But I guess for you, it would be "you're face in", huh?
Tim, please close the thread. I think we've discussed everything we are going to get out of this topic.
UH-OH! Posts disappearing!!
@rawkr there was a topic O_______________o

Anyway the only way to close it is to delete the entire thing
@Mishy no that wouldn't do at all.
@xoaks Maybe not good backup, but it would have been nice to have someone under the bus with me!
@jimmyheartbreak don't bother dude. WILDMAMMOTH is right. This site is under xoaks' control, for you see; xoaks is not real. She is a digital being of pure anger and hatred (the only emotions acceptable on the internet), Oh, and she's not trolling you, she's trolling everyone at all times. She is legion, She is PERFECTION, I LOVE HER! ALL GLORY TO THE XOAKS! @_@
@SilverJacketMan dayum, you went further than I did with the xoaks = overlord thing
Strange, posts are disappearing. I was talking about deleting the whole thing BTW. @xoaks I know what you are and have sent the Galirillians(sp?) for you.
Whose posts? I took a few back in an effort to be civil, anyone else?
@rawkr I had one disappear and I do not delete posts.
@SilverJacketMan Sh-shut up! >.> I am not a digital being! ;_;
*bows before the digital overlord, lord @xoaks*
@timyadeadhomie As did I, as do I (unless I accident-post or completely fuck something away). My "BAAAA.........AAWWW" post is gone.
And let me off this damn pedestal!
@xoaks You'll get off it when we say you do.
Oh, great internet goddess, @xoaks , I bring offerings of glorious trap cards. Trap cards so glorious you'd activate them--and still tap them.

And @jimmyheartbreak ? I am merely going to assume that your more intelligent posts are amongst the ones that have appeared as deleted.

Or--and that post was a fairly lame attempt to insult @xoaks .

How about I give you some ammo (as I hate fighting the unarmed):
* Not certain she is really all that into Invader Zim
* I really do not see her being into Green Day either... call it a hunch.
* Orientate insults to her around anime. I mean--I suppose if you are lazy you could create a few ones based on Inu Yasha and Narutardism. I dunno--you are not going to win over too many people by being lazy.
* Point out how @xoaks has pretty much taken over the internet for Anime communities. That is, if a site is an anime site, or a gaming site with cross overs into Anime-- @xoaks likely has a profile on it. Some cases they have no posts by her--but yeah.
* Mention that @xoaks has appeared on ED. Though, you may want to gloss over on the fact that she is listed as the reason somebody lost their job at a anime community (that is, for banning her in amongst his very few unjustified bans) rather than having anything like her own entry.

I must admit--in my background check, I really did not find much to insult her with. Except every now and then, a profile for an african gay man in his early twenties on some European dating sites, appeared in the background search.

Personally I think it would be hilarious if she was X3 X3 X3

I dunno--I must admit.. I really did not find anything wrong with her in my background search... but then, a background search on me in the same methods fails to yield the large amount of sheer retardation I have spread on the internet since about 1998 >.>'
@KatrinaTheLamia OHSHI- You found my ED stuff?!

African gay man. I'm going to need to see this. PM.
@Fallout2Forever Gross David....
I thought so.....
Yeah, this is one of those things that I say that only I would call funny. I apologize, and I'll delete it.
@Fallout2Forever Actually I found that to be quite funny.
@Fallout2Forever I thought it was funny too...
Yeah, but he's my brother, I live with him, I don't wanna think about that when I see him, that's gross, haha.
@EarthboundX Just as I suspected for no good reason as soon as you mentioned having a brother.
@EarthboundX Then do your very best not to think of your brother. Or penises.
Flaccid.
Erect.
Short with girth
Long
Grower
@EarthboundX I'll do my best to not let this happen again.
Show-er
@xoaks HEHEHE HAHAHA
I have been dirnking, so that seeems funnier than it should. Though I do not think I am 100% drunk yet.
Of course! I take a nap and suddenly penises are talked about! I ALWAYS MISS OUT!
